CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT!(:
“…returned?” Anastasia asked.
“You have been here before, this girl, does she mean this to you?” the elderly woman stepped down from her stool, again, and looked Oliver in the eyes. “Anastasia?” He asked coolly. “Have I returned for her? I don’t recall ever leaving.” “Not her, fool,” the woman looked over at Scarlet. “The mundane, you have been here once before have you not?” “I’ve been here numerous times,” Oliver stated. “I don’t see how this time is any different.” “You are too ignorant to understand the meaning to my words, Mr. Kennsington,” the woman held onto Scarlet’s hand so hard you could see the skin turning purple where the circulation was being cut off in her fingertips. “This girl, she will mean something to you.” “Right,” Oliver rolled her eyes. “As if I didn’t understand that a couple seconds ago when you said it twice in one sentence.” “Please, your honorable, fix her.” Marlene said, stepping forward and pushing Oliver back. “She doesn’t have to fix her,” Ivana cut in. “It’s not like she’s important.” “Not important?” Anastasia turned. “Why would Charisma send her to find the Siren Queen if she wasn’t important? You’re just jealous—” “I am not jealous of her.” Ivana spat. “Of course you’re not,” Anastasia rolled her eyes. “Please, could you fix her?” she looked at the woman holding Scarlet’s hand. “Yes, yes,” she let go of Scarlet’s hand. “There.” Scarlet jumped out of Spencer’s arms, her eyes a bright red and she wore an alert look. There were black marks, forming vein like patterns over her face. Her skin darkened, and her hair turned black, the color seeping from her scalp. She let out a cough, spitting blood, and shrunk back. “What’s wrong with her face? She looks uglier than usual” Ivana stated. “She’s been cursed,” the woman said, looking at her. “Come here, girl.” “Terra mortuis, tenent me cogis me, me ducere ad finem. mihi temperare non pugnant, corpus meum, animam meam includere, ut me ad finem. Vivamus vitae nulla.” Scarlet said, her voice hoarse and cracking. “I don’t speak Latin.” Mrs. Carson muttered under her breath. “Land of the dead possess me, compel me, bring me to the end. Do not fight me for control, take my body, enclose my soul, bring me to my end. Live my life, no longer.” Oliver said dully, repeating everything she’d just said, only in English. “You’re just going to let her finish the jinx, Mr. Kennsington?” the elder glared at him. “Sure, why not?” Oliver shrugged. “It’s not like it’s aimed at me anyway.” “Occidamus eum, qui eius vitam parce et fac animam meam. vinculo eum ad me coniungere vivis et mortuis revocare eum iterum. adducite eum ad me, tollat ille descendit rupturam superficies aeris me respirare interfice me post me factum est iterum cum.” Scarlet recited. “Kill him, take his life, spare the soul and make it mine. Tie him to me, connect the living to the dead bring him back once again. bring him to me, let him take the other down, breach the surface, breathe my air, kill me after, bring me back again when the deed is done.” Oliver repeated. “I think she is talking about you Oliver…” Anastasia murmured. “She hasn’t said whose life she’s taking. She may as well be taking Ivana’s or Spencer’s” Oliver ran his hand through his hair pulling it into his face. “Penetrabile viridis oculis nigris longum capillum nigrum sicut anima, sicut nigra cor ejus. producat illum, tulerit eum animam illius serva fiat firmamentum. vagari terram inter mortuos in perpetuum futuris repetas.” “Piercing green eyes, long black hair, black like his soul, black like his heart. Bring him down, take him away, spare his soul let it stay. Roam the earth, among the dead, never to come back again,” Oliver stated. “Okay, so maybe she is talking about me. But what harm can she really do?” “She can do all the harm a demon can do, Oliver,” Mrs. Carson stated. “That’s not her in that body.” “Past terram caelo observabant. in eam accipere, nisi animam relicto corpore suo super theloneum accipere iussus est quod inservivit. venenum ab hoc sibi liber, libera eam a modus, luctus a tenebris eam, accepta licentia sua pro meo salvans.” Oliver recited with a strange look on his face. ‘The earth, heaven is watching. Take her in, save her soul, leaving her body to take its toll on the bidding it has served. Free her from this poison, free her from her restraints, dark magic leave her be, leave her for my taking, for my saving.’The elderly woman thought aloud, letting the words sink through Anastasia’s train of thought. | “You save her, why?” the woman asked him.
“Save her?” Oliver looked at her. “Saving her, saves me. If there was a way to save me without saving her, I’d do that instead.” “I don’t think you would,” the woman said. “You may have everyone else fooled, Mr. Kennsington, but I know you better than you think you know yourself.” “Relinque corporis, da mihi animam, et corrigiam take mihi. custodiam verba tua inimici discedunt, ut se in vigilando. teneat eam in brachiis meis, ab iniuria defendere eam, imponit eam custodi illam mihi tutum. sanguine et corpore, cor et mens, et mea sunt. utrumque meum est, pro custodia.” Oliver recited, cutting open his hand and holding it out towards the woman. 'Leave her body, give it to me, take the soul and strap it to me. Keep thy enemy away, keep herself awake. Hold her in my arms, protect her from harm, bind her to me to keep her safe. Blood and body, heart and mind, both are mine. Both are mine, for the keeping.’The woman repeated in her head, gripping Scarlet’s dry skinned wrist and cutting it open quickly. “Crucis sanguinem, solvat maledictionem reducent eam. eam relinquit, abolere memoriam eius, et dabit ei damnum datum desuper mihi prodest. donec opus sit meminisse memoria evanescat. meum sanguinem, dabo ei. accipe sanguine, date mihi, quod nunc mihi.” The blood flowing from Oliver’s hand moved down his body, and onto the ground circling around the woman’s feet before running up to Scarlet’s bleeding wrist and back to him again. ‘Cross the blood, undo the curse, bring her back. Leave her be, wipe her memory, give her the loss and thus her given advantage above me. The memory disappears till need be remembered. Take my blood, give it to her. Take her blood, give it to me, it is now mine.’The woman repeated one last time, before dropping the mental connection she held with Anastasia to finish the counter-jinx. “Oliver?” Anastasia whispered. “Yes.” He said shortly, wiping the blood on his shirt before turning to look at her. His eyes flashed gray, like Scarlet’s, and then back to their originally hidden color. “What did you just do?” Anastasia gasped. Scarlet dropped to her knees, gasping for air, and coughing roughly. Oliver gave a slight look of pain, before shoving his hands in his pockets to make fists. “What have you done?” the woman looked at Oliver. “I saved myself” he said. “You have done nothing of the sort,” she glared. “You have done the opposite. The curse, it hasn’t been lifted, only shared. You have done no good to yourself, or to her.” “Done no good? Do you not see her? She looks perfectly fine to me.” he pointed to Scarlet, who was glancing up at him. Her eyes flashed green, then brown, and back to gray. He swallowed, not that anyone else could tell, and looked away. “Looks may be deceiving, she’s in worse condition than when she first got here.” the woman turned, and moved behind her chair to get something. She held out a knife to Scarlet. It was cured to a crescent with a silver hilt the pattern of her mark as the design. “What just happened?” Ivana asked, clearly lost. “The Siren Queen hides beneath the surface. Two of mine, know where she hides, but I won’t tell you which two. That you must find out yourselves.” The elder handed the knife to Scarlet who took it and stared at it for a long while. “Spencer, take her to her feet.” His mom said, pointing at Scarlet. Spencer reached over to get her and as he touched her, a black mark appeared on her skin and Oliver let out a grunt of subtle pain. A flame spread on Spencer’s hand, causing him to jump back. “What the—?!” “They are bound by blood and souls alike, no one touches her but him” an older man stated, having been standing in the corner of the room the entire time. “Get up” Oliver said, glaring at Scarlet. “Who are you? Wha-What’s going on?” Scarlet attempted to stand, but started to fall. Oliver let her fall, and watched as she sat on the ground a look of confusing and pain spreading across her features. In a way, she looked like he wanted to feel. It was painful to watch her, now more than ever. He stood there, just staring at her, the feelings she had pooling through his system. “Stop that. Right now.” Oliver glared at her. “Stop what? Who are you?” she looked at him. Her confusion seeping into his thoughts, and he shook his head. “Get up, and follow me.” he stated. |
