CHAPTER THIRTY!(:
~*~*~*~*~
“I don’t understand” Scarlet groaned, throwing her head down on the desk roughly. “Don’t hurt yourself,” Spencer said soothingly. “What don’t you understand?” “What do you mean by ‘types of Angels’? Aren’t they just Angels?” “No, Scarlet, there are specific types. And I’m going to teach you every single one of them. Don’t worry, I’ll go one at a time, we’ll make it like a game. Every time you get one right, I’ll give you a piece of candy or something” Spencer said. “Spencer, I’m not 5 years old. Candy isn’t going to help me learn faster” Scarlet grumbled, her forehead still on the cold desktop. “That’s how I taught Anastasia,” Spencer said, more to himself than to her. “The faster you learn the stuff in the books the faster you get to train with the rest of us” “Train with the rest of you?” “We’re going to teach you to fight, the right way. You’ll be able to take down any creature in a good 5 minutes” he smiled. “…and that’s a good thing?” she hesitated. “We’re warriors, Scarlet, it’s what we were born to do. Well, honestly, we don’t know what you were born to do, but we’ll figure it out eventually” his smile faded and he looked back at the book. “Could you give me examples? Like ‘gynaika fidi’ is snake-woman. And snake-woman is your aunt?” “I could try…?” “Why do you sound so worried?” “Because I’m not used to teaching those who were brought up differently than me” Spencer said truthfully. “But , you’ll try to teach me, right?” “Yes of course, let’s try again…” Spencer closed the book. “Dimidium Cognatus? Half and half” he stated. “Half human?” “Yes,” Spencer noted as she wrote it down, spelling it correctly. “Nesudauzytas, means ‘unbroken’.” “The Uncorrupted?” Scarlet sat there, listening to Spencer list of names, and she’d started to make a list of the names : 1. Nesudauzyats, the Uncorrupted. Means unbroken, untouched. 2. Seraphiel, it means of Song. 3. Metrton, Angel Scribe. 4. Abbadon, of Destruction. Means unlikey, and Destroyer of Worlds. 5. Azreal, of Death. 6. Mergyste, Pure of Heart. Means virginity. 7. Sandalphon, of Silence. 8. Azazel, of Love. Means the Darkling. 9. Andela, to Rise Again. 10. Xathaneal, Hidden One. 11. Arquiel, of Vengeance. Means Angel of Two Faces. 12. Harbonah, of Annihilation. Means extinction. 13. Sudas, ultimate enemy. Means, destroyer of kinds and/or species. 14. Dimidium Cognatus, of half. Half human. “Am I finished yet?” Scarlet whined, looking up at Spencer. “For today, yes. For tomorrow, no.” Spencer looked at her as she let out an exhausted sigh. He closed the book in front of her, and gave her a tired smile. “I’m just as tired as you are,” Spencer stated. “But tomorrow you will start every other day training with us. On Tuesdays and Thursdays you will be in here, recieting the laws and learning that of creatures we slay. On Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays you will be training with us.” “What about Wednesdays?” “Wednesdays are different for every week. And, in case you were wondering, Saturdays are preserved for rest.” “…we can only rest on Saturdays? I usually have 3 lazy days a week!” she exclaimed. “Sorry to say, but old habits die hard. You will have to get used to the way things work according to Institute schedule” he touched his hand to her shoulder and then dropped it. +.+ “TRAINING DAY! GET UP!” Anastasia yelled, jumping on Scarlet’s bed again. “Ugh, Anastasia…” Scarlet groaned, then sat up. The clock read 5:00 a.m., it was Wednesday morning. She fixated herself in some sweatpants and a big t-shirt. She followed Anastasia to the training room she’d first trained in, the padded walls and floors vaguely familiar to her. She watched the balance beams boarded into the ceiling at least 60 feet above her head, close to the roof. Ivana was placed on top of one of the balance beams, no ropes attached to her at all. She jumped off, and Scarlet felt the need to scream at her, or look around for help. She watched as Ivana flew towards the ground, dropping with her arms at her sides, and her feet together facing the ground. A good 10 feet from the ground Ivana turned, and slid gracefully onto the surface, and knife at one of the foam dummy’s necks. “Pretty cool, huh?” Anastasia commented, causing Scarlet to jump. | “Yeah, I guess” Scarlet looked up at the beams again.
“You’ll be able to do that soon, it’ll be fun!” Anastasia smiled. “You’re kidding me right?! I can’t do that! I’m scared of heights!” Scarlet half-shouted. “You’ll have ropes on, duh! We attach bungee cords to a special belt, so when you get a couple feet above the ground, you’ll either have to unhook yourself really fast or you’ll end up getting pulled back up to the bar! Safe and sound!” “I’m notdoing that!” “That’s alright, you’ll be on the ground today.” Spencer said. “What am I doing today? Because I’m tired of doing cartwheels, handstands, back hand springs, front hand springs, back bends, and other assorted gymnastic routines” Scarlet complained. “Those will help you when you fight, which is why you had to learn them” Spencer said, sounding more like a teacher than another student. “And I suppose you can do all those things, too then?” “No, of course not, I never said I could. But I have also been training in combat since I could walk” he said. “How is knowing how to do gymnastic routines going to help me fight?” Scarlet asked. “It can be used in many ways, but there are many disadvantages that come with using them.” Spencer said wisely. “Anastasia, come at me” Spencer said. Anastasia bounded towards him, then started to cartwheel. Spencer caught Anastasia’s ankle midway through her movement, and held her upside down. Anastasia twisted her torso, and ended up doing a back hand spring out of his grasp and hitting him in the chin with her heel as she did so. Spencer grabbed his chin, and gave a weak smile. “That wasn’t very nice.” Scarlet commented. “She wasn’t supposed to be nice, Scarlet,” Spencer stated. “We’re fighting.” “So? If I was fighting with John I wouldn’t kick him in the face.” “That’s not the same thing, Scarlet come at me.” “Spencer, I think we both know you could kill me before I even got the chance to take a breath. This is stupid.” “Just come at me, it’ll be easier on you if you just try. Try to do what Anastasia did.” Scarlet threw herself forward, and did a quick cartwheel as Spencer grabbed her ankle, she automatically twisted sharply and thrust her hand out. She hit him in the stomach, directly on one of his bruises. He winced and dropped her, his hand moving to cover his stomach. “I’m sorry! I’m so, so, sorry!” Scarlet cried, moving her hands in the air uselessly. “It’s fine, stop apologizing. All you did was punch me in the stomach. Now if I wasn’t already hurt, I wouldn’t have let you go. You would have had to try something else, you’ve got to think fast—” Spencer was cut off by Scarlet hugging him. “What are you doing? You aren’t supposed to hug someone who just tried to kill you.” Anastasia said, taking the scenario to an unrealistic level. Scarlet hugged him a little tighter and he grunted in pain a couple times before making her let go of him. “What were you trying to do?” he asked. “…I usually don’t feel sorry for people. But you really, really, needed a hug.” Scarlet whispered. Spencer pulled up his shirt, and was surprised to see only the claw mark-shaped bruise marks left. The hand prints were completely gone. “What did you do?” “I don’t know, I thought only John could heal people” Scarlet stated. “Has John ever donated blood for you?” Spencer asked. “Well, I got in a car accident last year and john donated blood for my surgery…but I don’t see how that has anything to do with anything…” she hesitated. “He donated blood, that you haven’t wasted yet.” “Haven’t wasted yet?” Scarlet repeated, looking at the faint veins in her wrist. “It hasn’t made it’s full course through your body yet. When it can no longer be used for healing abilities it will be used as regular blood” Spencer shrugged. “Then why couldn’t I heal you all the way?” she huffed. “Because you have no idea what you’re doing” Anastasia smiled. “Yeah, that makes sense” she rolled her eyes. “Come at me again” Spencer said, holding out his hands. Scarlet ran at him, this time head on. Last minute she attempted to jump over him, just barely making it before he turned and grabbed her by the ankle, he slung her onto the ground as gently as he could. “Ouch!” she rubbed her back, and sat up. Spencer looking down at her wearily. “Get back up.” Spencer said. “But I don’t want to. I’m going to keep getting knocked down, over and over and over!” she whined. “I’m putting ropes on you. You’re going to practice your flips, then I’m going to take off the ropes, and you’re going to do it right. Do you understand?” “What if I fall?” "Just trust me, you’ll fall. When you do, I’ll wait for you to get back up so I can make you do it again, and again till you can’t breathe.” Spencer stated, his arms reaching out for a bungee cord Anastasia had latched to one of the holding bars; the ones that kept the roof from falling in on them. |
