CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE!(:
~*~*~*~*~
“Stop! Scarlet. Cut it out.” Oliver stood up, taking her with him. He locked her wrists together in his hands and looked at her. She bit her lip, she didn’t want him to see her cry. The tears having already dried on her face, she began to glare at him. “You!” she shouted, then tried to hit him. He was too fast and moved out of the way. “Me, what?” Oliver edged. “You’re the reason I’m in this mess!” she shouted. And tried to hit him again. “My mom is dead and it’s your fault!” she raised her leg to kick him, and he caught it skillfully. “You’re blaming something I didn’t even know about on me? Typical” he kept her leg, and trailed his fingers over her ankle. She breathed heavily, and tried to yank her leg out of his grasp. “Let me go!” she shouted. “Invite me in” he backfired. “Invite you in? What are you talking about?” “I can’t come in your house unless I’m invited in. That’s the way things work around here, almostnothing can get in your house if they’re not invited.” Oliver explained an exhausted look on his face. “Put my leg down first,” her body started to shake, and he could read fear clearly in her eyes. He dropped her leg, and looked at her. “Please, come in” she said bitterly. Oliver stepped through the doorway, making his way in after her. “What is that awful odor?” he asked, looking around. “Dead bodies” she murmured, her eyes locked on the stairs as she hugged herself. “Are they upstairs?” Oliver asked, following her gaze. She shook her head, and pointed to the room next to the end of the stairs backing away in the process. “He sent it after me…” “What are you talking about?” Oliver looked at her. “Mumbling to yourself isn’t going to solve any problems” “It w-was in my house!” she yelled then ran upstairs. “Scarlet calm down” Oliver was at the top of the stairs. “I almost diedand you’re telling me to calm down?!” she shoved past him and then ducked under her mom’s bed. “What on earth are you doing? Come out so I can ask you what happened” Oliver reached under for her foot. She let out a scream, and jumped out from underneath the mattress to stand a couple feet behind Oliver. “There’s something under there!” she said. A cat came crawling out; Oliver held back a laugh as he picked it up. “You’re scared of a cat? Honestly, I thought I was here for something important” he scoffed. “Lucy?” Scarlet backed away as the cat meowed as if to say ‘yes?’ in response. “She died when I was 6!” “She’s not going to hurt you if she’s your cat, come back over here” Oliver’s voice held an annoyed ring to it, he placed the cat back on the ground, and it ran out of the doorway and down the stairs. “Ghost’s aren’t real” Scarlet closed her eyes and backed into the door. | She felt clothing press against her. “Sure they are” Oliver’s hoarse voice sent shivers up her spine and as soon as they passed Oliver was already on the other side of the room.
"Jared, where’s Jared?!” she ran out of the room and back down the stairs. Her mom’s body lay limp beside the creatures they’re blood mixing purple in the middle. She lost her footing, and fell down on to the last step, immediately curling her knees to her chest. “And the bodies are finally discovered.” Oliver just walked past her into the room, his books creaking on the wood flooring. He squatted down by the bodies, examining the damage. “How did your mom kill it?” Oliver pointed to the creature. “……I killed it” she murmured. “How did you kill it?” he asked a strange look of disbelief on his face. “A glass umbrella holder” Scarlet admitted shyly, picking at her fingernails and biting her lip. “What happened to her?” Oliver didn’t even look the slightest bit affected by the dead bodies. “She was dead when I got here…the man…he was behind the curtains…!” she shouted, and looked around frantically. “He’s not here anymore calm down before you get us both killed.” Oliver glared at her. “Calm down?! My mom just died!” Scarlet growled. “I don’t see what the big deal is,” Oliver stated. “She wasn’t even your mother” “She took me in, and raised me!” “What does that mean to me?” Oliver questioned rhetorically. “Nothing, absolutely nothing. She didn’t give you life, I don’t get what you’re all worked up about. Your real mother could still be alive for all you know, but you seem to care more about this dead thing on the floor” “Dead thing on the floor?! She raised me like I was actually her child! Not that you would know! You came in and ruined everything!” she shouted, then took a deep breath. “If it weren’t for you, my mom would still be alive!” “No, if it weren’t for me, you’d both be lying on the floor bleeding to death while poor old Johnathan sat by the door and cried like the wuss I know he is” Oliver commented, dipping a finger in the demon’s blood. “Who do you think you are?!” Scarlet had had enough. He was cocky, overly cocky. “You think you can just come into my house, and talk crap?!” “Actually, I didn’t come into your house,” Oliver pointed out. “You invited me in” “Why are you such a smartass?!” “Why do you ask so many unnecessary questions?” Scarlet growled, and huffed; attempting to blow some hairs out of her face, then sat planted on the last step staring at Oliver while walked around the room. |
